Following in their Footsteps: Exploring the History of Jazz
Celebrate Black History with the Royal Academy of Dance through the jazz arts.
Celebrate Black History 365 with the Royal Academy of Dance and the Body Of People (BOP) Jazz Theatre Company as we explore the rich history, influence, and legacy of jazz dance, supported by Wandsworth Council.
The event begins with a talk from Dollie Henry MBE, exploring the origins and evolution of jazz dance, its cultural reach, and the ways it continues to influence dance styles today. After, there will be a live performance from the BOP Company, bringing the energy and artistry of jazz dance to the stage. You’ll then have the opportunity to put what you’ve learned into practice with an introductory jazz dance workshop.
6:00pm – 6.40pm: Introduction to the history of jazz talk by Dollie Henry MBE and Paul Jenkins
6:45pm – 7.10pm: Introduction to the piece and performance of the Daughters of Eve BOP Company
