Schools Heritage Poetry Project 2026

Building on the success of last years Schools Poetry Festival and schools heritage programme, we are offering a free poetry project to selected Wandsworth Primary Schools in Autumn 2026. The project will link to the Wandsworth Heritage Collection and schools will work with professional poets to create poems inspired by objects, exploring their history, culture and meaning.

Each participating school will receive a workshop with a professional poet in October 2026 which will be followed with a period of time in which classes can work on their poems with their teachers. The poets will return to the schools at the start of November to review and refine the poems with the pupils. A teacher CPD session will also be offered to participating staff in order to fully embed the poetry techniques and methods.

This project is open to upper KS2 classes and places will be allocated at the start of the autumn term.

Representatives from each school will then take part in a celebration event in November 2026 where they will perform their poems alongside the professionals. In addition all poems will be collated into a digital anthology of heritage poems alongside illustrations by artist Grace Holliday.
