The Arts Society SW London
EVENING LECTURE: An Introduction to African Sub-Saharan Art
Date
Mon 14 Dec 2026
The historic links between Europe and Africa, and preconceptions, mean that traditional African art is not always understood fully by Europeans. The lecture will showcase some fascinating and beautiful artifacts and examine their uses.
Many traditional African artifacts have uses that go far beyond simply being beautiful. They have been used in communications, in marriage counselling and for medicinal purposes. The lecturer will give examples of some of these artifacts and attendees are invited to bring any traditional African artifacts with them.
Doors open at 19:10 for the Christmas party and at 19:45 for the lecture.
Entry is FREE but donations at the door are welcomed from non-members.
