Winstanley Neighbourhood Regeneration: Cultural Programme
The Winstanley Neighbourhood is undergoing a major regeneration, with culture playing an important role in shaping how that change is experienced. Cultural Place-shaping in Winstanley uses creative activity, projects and partnerships to bring people together, celebrate local identity and ensure residents are part of shaping the neighbourhood’s future.
This is all delivered through a thoughtful programme of activity taking place across the estates throughout each year. From festivals and events to workshops, resident microgrants and community led projects, the focus is on making culture visible, accessible and relevant to local people and making the Winstanley a vibrant place to live, work and play amongst the changing landscape.
Large scale events like the Winstanley Past, Present and Future Festival and Wandsworth Arts Fringe bring people together through performance, workshops and public art. Alongside this, seasonal programmes such Christmas and Eid celebrations, Black History Month and South Asian Heritage Month support and more, create regular moments for connection.
There is also a strong focus on supporting existing community activity. Organisations based in the area such as Agoe Empowerment, Providence House and Happy Homes are supported to deliver ongoing sessions and community events, while residents have accessed many opportunities across the borough, including free tickets to events such as Battersea Jazz Festival.

Young people and participation are central to the programme. Partnerships with local schools and youth groups create opportunities to perform, develop creative skills and gain paid work experience.

You can also see culture reflected in the neighbourhood itself. Projects like the Inspiring Women of Battersea installation outside Duval House celebrate the rich heritage of the area, while wider developments such as the Falcon Road Bridge transformation included Winstanley community input in their design.

Our aim is to make sure that the Winstanley Regeneration centres people, community and identity. We use culture as a tool to bring people together, celebrate local stories and create opportunities for residents to take part in shaping the future of their neighbourhood and beyond.
The programme is built around five strands: growing the local creative economy, supporting health and wellbeing through arts, ensuring access for all, inspiring young people and schools, and building strong partnerships between residents, organisations and institutions.
For residents, this means more opportunities on their doorstep, from free and low cost events and workshops to skills development, paid work experience and funding for their ideas. It also creates spaces to connect with others and as the area changes, this work helps people feel part of that change, building confidence, pride and a stronger sense of belonging in the neighbourhood.
