Exhibition: Behind the Counter

Date
Sat 23 May - Sun 14 Jun 2026

No Booking Required

The small shop, once the heart of the community, is now a fast-vanishing part of British life. Despite this, small shopkeepers are resilient. They work longer hours to compete with chains and often have a personal connection with their customers.

This project documents shop keepers from Wandsworth and South London.

The exhibition can be viewed in Battersea Library reference library (please note, the reference library which hosts the exhibition will close at 5pm on Tuesday 2nd June, Wednesday 3rd June, and Wednesday 10th June for Wandsworth Heritage Festival events).
