Open Now: Three New Heritage Grants

Published Thu 5 Mar
Britain Called and We Answered by Steve Reeves

Applications now open for South Asian Heritage Month, Black History 365 and Wandsworth Community Heritage Grants.

We are seeking applications from organisations or individuals that can deliver community focused heritage-based activities and events for three distinct funding programmes: South Asian Heritage Month, Black History 365 and Wandsworth Community Heritage grants, all supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Projects from the different grant streams will pop up from July - December 2026, demonstrating our continued support for local practitioners, a legacy of our year as London Borough of Culture.

The cultural exchange, stories and experiences that successful projects can provide will contribute to a better understanding of the borough’s history and the positive impact these communities have made to the wider community.

Celebrating our heritage has been central to our London Borough of Culture year, and we’re committed to continuing this work beyond March 2026. Alongside our annual Black History 365 and South Asian Heritage Month Grants, the new Wandsworth Community Heritage Grant recognises and supports the remarkable work of our independent heritage groups, who bring to life the rich stories of the people and places woven into our borough.”  Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Culture, Kemi Akinola

Celebrating the heritage of Wandsworth’s African and Caribbean communities is also a key part of Wandsworth’s London Borough of Culture legacy programme. Black History Month is celebrated across October in the UK, but in Wandsworth, African and Caribbean history, culture and heritage is celebrated all year round, hence Black History 365.

Creatives of African and Caribbean heritage and/or Black-led organisations are invited to apply for cultural activity that will contribute to the cultural agenda of the borough.

The deadline for BH365 applications is 7 May. Projects will happen between July and December 2026.
