We are dedicated to preserving and sharing our rich heritage through our extensive collection of 14,000 objects. Our goal is to make this collection accessible to the public via our new online collection page. We are looking for passionate volunteers to help us achieve this vision.
As a Heritage Collection Volunteer, you will play a vital role in researching, documenting, and cataloguing our collection. Your efforts will directly contribute to improving the accessibility and knowledge of our collection for the public.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research objects to enhance the documentation and understanding of the collection.
- List and catalogue objects accurately.
- Collaborate with staff and other volunteers.
- Develop, improve, and update collection databases.
- Scan and photograph objects for digital records.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- Friendly and approachable attitude.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- An interest in heritage and historical collections.
- Desirable: Experience in object handling and/or collection management.
Time Commitment:
- On-site: Commit to at least half a day per week.
- Remote: Commit to cataloguing a certain number of objects per month.
Support and Training:
- Full induction and relevant training on object handling and collection databases.
- Ongoing support from the Culture and Heritage Programmer.
