This painting depict an historical street scene from the late 19th century. On the left, there’s a row of buildings, including a three-story building with a sign reading “The White Hart Inn,” featuring red brickwork and white-framed windows with flowers. Two figures dressed in black walk by this building. The buildings next to it all have shops in the ground floor, with different signs over the doors. In front of the one the in nearest to the left, there’s a horse-drawn cart labelled “OAKEYS BANK.” The street curves to the right, leading to smaller buildings, one of which has a sign indicating “HAY, STRAW.” Beyond the buildings, there’s a river with boats and a some houses and greenery in the distance. The sky is painted in soft blue hues with light cloud cover.
