Sound Pavilion
The Sound Pavilion is a place to listen and breathe, a space for soundscapes to open new perspectives and insights about the local area.
The Sound Pavilion is a composition developed for the area around Clapham Junction in collaboration with local youth clubs, schools and participants.
There will be plaque situated between Grant Road and Falcon Road Bridge under the arches by unit 22 - Clapham Junction. Listeners are invited to experience a unique soundscape to open new perspectives and insights about the local area via a QR code they can access on their phones.
The team have worked with community groups and two local schools, Ark John Archer Primary Academy and Belleville Wix Academy, to develop a series of recordings that address ideas around what it means to belong and how this can be communicated through sound and space. The aim is to build up ‘sonic material knowledge’ about each of the sites that create a layering of soundscapes using the rhythm of passing trains as a baseline for songs and lyrical responses to the area. It will be a site of inspiration for new soundscapes that connect communities on both sides of the bridge.
The project is part of Wandsworth Arts Fringe in June 2025 and is supported by the Sites & Situations research cluster at the Royal College of Art.
