Francis Barber Media Club

Take a look at what the media club at Francis Barber have been doing!

students listening to guest speaker

Francis Barber students started their involvement in the journalism project by putting their questions to guest speaker Olu Spwemimo, a creative producer, director, actor and youth worker from south London.

The Best bits

I liked hearing about the journalists and the work they do in war zones.  I also liked seeing the variations in cameras that they use. I also enjoyed getting free lollipops!

What I learnt

I learnt what the latest cameras look like and how they are used. I learned that the cameras in the studios are not manned but are controlled by someone in the control room.

How would this visit benefit me in the future?

The beneficial thing I got from this visit is finding out that there are more than just cameras in a TV studio. There is so much more that happens behind it that we don’t see.

What I learnt

Cameras are not that expensive anymore and ‘phones are better to use for recording because they’re an everyday thing you can use plus they are smaller.  They have changed over the years.

How would this visit benefit me in the future?

It was interesting to learn that they have to work with and to stream to other countries when they broadcast.

The Best bits

I liked the part where they showed us a video of the journalists in conflict zones in different parts of the world.

What I learnt

I learned that the cameras downsize every few years and that a smartphone is better or just as good, as a Go-Pro camera.  I also learned that CNN is owned by Warner Brothers is an American media company that is located in California.

How would this visit benefit me in the future?

I would like to go back for another visit with my family and friends.
