Centre Academy Media Club
Centre Academy’s Media Club particularly enjoy getting hands-on with their learning. Ahead of visiting the CNN news studio they met Tony Fallshaw, a former BBC cameraman with over 30 years’ experience.
He shared some top tips about framing photos and filming and the young reporters tried out wearing a weighty flak jacket and going live in front of a camera.
We talked to Tony who filmed for the BBC News. He went to places [all over the world] and he brought the jacket he wore in Ukraine. It was not heavy at all!
In this photo I am talking to the camera as if I'm a presenter. I'm enjoying Media Club because it's really fun and made me question a lot.
- Soraya, young reporter
In Media Club we have been learned how to ask questions. It is interesting and I'm getting better at learning how to hold a camera; this is important to get the best view. We asked questions about what filming a documentary was like. I asked Tony what the journey was like. For example, ‘was it long?’
-Jacob, young reporter
I tried wearing a helmet and press vest and Tony talked about working during the war with Russia and Ukraine; he was recording stuff and in a car they called 'Miss Piggy'. During Media Club I've learnt some new things. -Jack, young reporter
Some of the young reporters put their journalism skills into practice speaking to filmmaker and digital storyteller Anushree Shukla about her award-winning documentaryMustafa: True Story of a Tiger:
I've found Media Club really fun and interesting!
-Lola, young reporter
I've found it [Media Club] very interesting as you learn new skills every single time. You learn people's stories and how they've got to where they are now. And I finally got the chance to interview someone - and I'm only 12!
