Battersea Jazz Festival: Deschanel Gordon Trio
Deschanel Gordon will be bringing his eponymous trio to St Mary’s Battersea for an exciting afternoon of jazz standards, original compositions, and music from different traditions.
Deschanel Gordon is one of the most preeminent young pianists on the London music scene. He was born in Hackney and attended youth programmes such as the Hackney Creative Jazz Ensemble and the Julian Joseph Jazz Academy. Growing up he was surrounded by a wide range of music from gospel to reggae, and was inspired aged ten by a video of virtuoso pianist Oscar Peterson, which sparked his love of jazz.
His trio will be performing at St Mary's Battersea as part of the 2026 Battersea Jazz Festival.
Deschanel has made waves on the UK jazz scene since winning BBC Young Jazz Musician in 2020. One of the brightest prospects of his generation, as well as being a member of Olivia Dean's band he has worked with the likes of Mark Kavuma, Cassie Kinoshi’s Seed, Nubya Garcia, Courtney Pine, Ezra Collective, Jean Toussaint, Patrick Bartley and Joe Farnsworth. His music embodies swing, groove, and his Jamaican heritage.
