Saree Stories: Making mini sarees & unfolding their stories
Craft mini sarees and uncover the stories they hold. Saree Stories brings Wandsworth communities together to explore heritage, memory, identity and journey through making and storytelling.
Saree Stories: Making mini sarees & unfolding their stories, is a participatory South Asian Heritage Month project by artist and designer Roopa Basu, made possible through a Wandsworth Heritage Grant.
Through a series of free creative workshops across Wandsworth, participants will make their own mini sarees while exploring the heritage, craft, memories and journeys held within the saree. Each session will include a short storytelling element, introducing different ways a saree can carry meaning: from migration and family history to regional craft traditions and cultural identity.
Using accessible materials, pattern, colour and surface decoration, participants will create mini sarees in a welcoming space for shared learning, creativity and cultural exchange. The workshops are open to all.
