Wandsworth Artists’ Open House: A Wonderful Celebration of Local Art

Published Wed 21 Oct

Over the first two weekends in October, the much-loved annual Wandsworth Artists’ Open House returned, coordinated by Putney School of Art & Design (PSAD).

This year, the event took a paper-based approach, with PSAD designing and printing thousands of leaflets for artists to distribute across the borough, inviting visitors to explore local creativity right on their doorstep.

The Open House offers a wonderful opportunity to step inside artists’ home studios, discover original artwork, chat with artists about their work and creative processes, and perhaps even find something special to take home.

Along the Balham, Battersea and Wandsworth Trail, artist Phillippa Egerton welcomed visitors into her studio, showcasing her work alongside guest photographers Iain and Lynn Selwyn-Reeves from Furzedown Art Studio, and Milly & Max Jewellery. It was a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a diverse range of creative talent in a warm and welcoming setting.

The event was a great success, attracting close to 100 visitors to this venue alone over the two weekends and ending on a high with the now celebrated cake cutting on the final Sunday.

The honour of cutting this year’s cake went to the fantastic Arts Advisor and Researcher Elizabeth Lynch MBE, who gave a wonderful speech to a crowd of more than 40 people. With the studio full to capacity and visitors spilling out into corridor, the atmosphere was lively and filled with community spirit. After the much anticipated cut, everyone enjoyed sharing the cake with a glass of fizz - a fitting celebration to round off the event.

A huge thank you to everyone who visited, took part and helped, and especially to Putney school of Art & Design for making the Open House possible and such a success. Events like this bring local artists and the wider community together, making art more accessible and creating opportunities to connect, discover and support creative talent across the borough.

It’s an event we all love, and we very much hope to see it return next year!
