The Wandsworth Way wins Gold at the Community Radio Awards

Published Tue 27 Oct

The success of The Wandsworth Way has been recognised with a Gold award at the 10th annual Community Radio Awards, winning in the Arts and Creative Radio of the Year category.

What began as a radio drama project evolved into a much wider celebration of creativity, confidence and community in Wandsworth. Delivered through a partnership between Riverside Radio, Theatre503 and Wandsworth Council as part of the Mayor's London Borough of Culture 2025 programme, the project provided opportunities for local people to develop new skills, tell their stories and connect with others through audio storytelling.

Across 40 episodes, The Wandsworth Way brought together 31 first-time writers and 84 local actors aged between 14 and 80, supported by a dedicated production team. The project not only created engaging original drama, but also helped participants build confidence, gain creative experience and develop lasting connections within their community.

The award is a testament to the talent, commitment and collaboration of everyone involved. From writers and performers to producers, partners and supporters, hundreds of people played a role in bringing these stories to life and helping The Wandsworth Way become much more than a radio drama series. It stands as a lasting example of how creative projects can inspire participation, develop skills and strengthen community bonds.
