Springfield Spark Community Fund Awards £25,000 to Wandsworth Community Organisations

Published Tue 16 Jun

Springfield Spark Community Fund has awarded over £25,000 in funding to seven Wandsworth community organisations to run creative and inclusive community activities in Springfield Park this summer.

The groups will deliver a wide range of events at Springfield Park, including a family festival, guided walks, sports sessions, and arts and culture activities. Together, they will help create a vibrant and welcoming space for everyone to enjoy. This is an amazing example of how place-making can impact local communities positively as well as helping to deliver creative health solutions.

Congratulations to these amazing Wandsworth organisations:

  • Riverside Radio is a local radio station for south west London. They will be hosting a summer roadshow at Springfield Park – a family‑friendly festival that will bring together reading, sport, music and hands‑on radio experiences.
  • Roehampton Wellbeing Women and Children is an organisation providing support for Asian families, empowering them to achieve independence and resilience within their communities. At Springfield Park, they will be running facilitated nature walks, which will include observation, storytelling, reflection and simple creative practices.
  • Share Community is a charity providing programmes and activities to empower adults with a learning disability and autistic adults to live happier, healthier and more independent lives. They will be holding a series of walks around Springfield Park for Share students to learn about local wildlife and biodiversity.
  • Sound Minds is a mental health charity, transforming lives through music, film and art. This summer, they will be running three outdoor art workshops, introducing participants to a range of different art materials and creative processes, such as drawing, painting and photograph in the park.
  • The Furzedown Project provides older people with opportunities to connect, contribute and be active to tackle social isolation and improve wellbeing. At Springfield Park, they will be running a range of physical and creative activities, including guided history walks, art and photography sessions and a garden visit.
  • The Hope for Wellbeing Project is a welcoming space for people recovering from mental distress, with a focus on supporting people from global majority backgrounds. ‘Steps to Strength’ is a men’s walking football group, which will be held in the Springfield Park amphitheatre and aims to support the mental and physical health of the men attending.
  • Wandsworth Carers Centre provides activities and events for carers, enabling them to have a break from their caring role and improve their wellbeing. They will be bringing their members to Springfield for two picnics, guided walks and a chance to try Qigong, an ancient Chinese exercise for the mind and body.
