The house belonged to Percy Melville Thornton (1841–1918), a British Conservative MP, author, and sportsman. Thornton was a prominent figure in Putney, known for his contributions to politics, literature, and athletics. He served as MP for Clapham from 1892 to 1910 and was also Honorary Secretary of Middlesex County Cricket Club.
