Artist Biography
Maria Luck-Szanto (1899–1988) An artist and designer who settled in Wandsworth after emigrating from Vienna in 1935, Maria Luck-Szanto blended creativity with community. Known for her innovative textile work and expressive visual art, she built a thriving hand-knitting business that supported hundreds of local women. Her art, including works in the Wandsworth Heritage Collection, reflects a deep engagement with urban life and the everyday experiences of the borough’s residents.
