Edward James Ashenden (1896 - 1952) Watercolour painter, designer, model‑maker and decorative artist. Born at Wandsworth Common, London, he studied at Putney School of Art just prior to the First World War (when he enlisted in 28th London Regiment (Artists' Rifles)), returning to study there from 1919 to 1922. His skills in design and model‑making were widely employed, notably for the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum and the Century of Progress Exhibition, Chicago. During the Second World War he served as a camouflage officer with the Air Ministry. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and Royal Institute, as well as in provincial exhibitions, and lived and worked in London. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 1949.
