Decorative packaging box Shireen Mahal Sweet Box. 2003.
Carboard sweet box made in Pakistan for a confectionary shop in Tooting.
The box is decorated in a yellow-green gradient, floral motifs, and bilingual text in English and Arabic, it advertises “Pure Butter Ghee Sweets” from the brand Shireen Mahal. A red ribbon bow is printed in the top left corner, adding a celebratory touch. The top right corner features an emblem with a crown, accompanied by Arabic text, suggesting its Pakistani origin. The lower section of the box is decorated with roses and vine motifs, enhancing its traditional and ornamental aesthetic.
The donor Mrs Salim was interviewed for the oral history project and donated the boxes for use in an exhibition in Autumn 2003.
