This watercolour depicts a typical row of houses down a quite lane. The houses are simple with sloped roofs covered in red tiles and chimneys. a line of colourful laundry hangs between two houses.The road is a narrow narrow dirt road, with pavement on both sides, that runs through the centre of the watercolour. Low wooden fences and hedges line the pavement. Mature trees appear behind the houses and on the other side of the road.The title of the watercolour "BREWHOUSE LANE. Where the Portsmouth Road began. from an old etching" appears below the framing of the scene. The artist signature is visible on the right bottom corner "F. HIBBERT. 1988".
