John Thomas Mellor (1822–1899)

Born in Shaw, Lancashire in February 1822, John Thomas Mellor was a hat maker of 173 York road, SW11, and was one of the first members of the commissioners for Public Libraries and Museums of the Parish of Saint Mary, Battersea. The commissioners held office from 1//06/1887 to 25/03/1896 when powers and duties were transferred by an order of the Local Government Board to the Vestry. He married Mary Ann Coltman, and together they had two children. Mellor spent his later years in Wandsworth, Surrey, where he passed away in 1899.
