An Old Shop, Battersea Bridge
Watercolour by Ethel Woolmer depicting an Old Shop, Battersea Bridge. 1907.
The watercolour depicts an old-fashioned shop on a street corner. The shopfront is the central focus of the painting. It's a small, rectangular shopfront with a green awning and window frame, and a window display filled with various objects. A green sign appears to the right of the shop.
The shop is situated on a corner, with a street running along the side. There are two figures visible in the street: a woman in a dark brown dress and a child in a purple dress. The woman appears to be looking at the shop window, and they are both positioned just outside the door. We can see a person inside the shop walking out. Several other human figures are congregated around the lamppost in the left side background.
The painting is executed in watercolour, hence the soft, blended colours and a sense of atmosphere.
