Balham High Road at Hildreth Street, London

Oil painting by Stephen Chaplin depicting Balham High Road at Hildreth Street, London. 2001.

Urban landscape. In the left, you can see charming red-brick buildings with colourful blue and red awnings, suggesting bustling shops or cafes. In the centre, a more modern building, with a grey wall stands out, while the other walls all appear in brown and red colours. A large billboard with yellow text on a red background is attached to this building, adding a commercial touch to the scene. Next to the building 3 telephone boxes are located in a row.

On the right, smaller buildings in various hues, including blue and pink, add to the vibrant urban landscape. The foreground features two cars: one dark red-coloured car facing towards the viewer on the right side of the painting and another partially visible car on the right. The sky is painted in muted tones as if covered in clouds or fog.
