REMIXTAPE

Date
Thu 12 Jun 2025
What does it mean to learn a history that doesn’t include you, or to write yourself back into a story that has silenced your voice? In this new work by composer Sofia Swenson-Wright, poetry and music come together in a reflective elegy for queer women and nonbinary people’s lost histories. Written for recorder and cassette tape, the performance centres on poems by English Renaissance poet, Ben Jonson, recorded by members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Each poem is paired with a musical ‘remix’ which explores the original text through a queer lens.
