Moving Scenes

Date
Sat 14 Jun 2025

A contemporary dance concert, featuring “The Strangers Project” and “The Climb” by Cathy Allen, and “The Medusa” by Mallory Tove.

Moving Scenes is a triple bill featuring contemporary dance, film, and sculpture that brings together movement, storytelling and small moments of humanity. The performance is a collaboration between dancers from Las Vegas, USA, and London, UK. Based on the books,“Humans of New York” by Brandon Stanton and "What’s Your Story? True Experiences from Complete Strangers", Cathy Allen’s “The Strangers Project” is a series of vignettes, or scenes, centered around the strangers we pass on the street. Who are they? Allen’s second piece, “The Climb”, celebrates the beauty of community and the climb that we make together. Featuring an aerial sculpture by scenic design artist Michele Anderson, “The Climb” is a constant reach forward and upward. The triple bill also includes Mallory Tove’s “The Medusa”, a narrative dance work. Based on the Greek myth and its various iterations throughout time and cultures, "The Medusa" investigates the use of the female gaze and narrative to explore the power that resides in the monstrous feminine. Combining film and live performance, this piece centres around transformation and coming into one’s own. Content warning: Fake blood shown on screen.
