Kate Bodell
I am a writer and poet who also likes to draw. As a former primary school teacher, my educational philosophy shaped my passion for helping others. I believe in making learning fun and nurturing the whole child.
Now as a poet, I am especially interested in mental well-being. I write poems for peace of mind. My current project POETRY in MOTION, sees me writing poems for strangers to uplift them in a moment of despair. Postcards are dotted in peaceful spots around Wandsworth and beyond, with a QR code for initial interaction.
I also run creativity workshops, Kickstart Your Creativity, for children and adults whose inner children may need a little love! These workshops are designed to relax, allow space for expression and exploration and ultimately empower individuals to know they have the tools within themselves to find answers and support themselves.
I’m an oasis in the chaos, helping people develop inner peace for maintaining their well-being in this wild world we live in!
Love Wandsworth
Wandsworth has it all! Sometimes I take it for granted; the culture of the borough runs through everything, regardless of accolades and titles. It’s like breathing, giving the borough life and pulsating through community, buildings and outdoor spaces. I love that it can be right in your face; the Power Station, iconic and impossible to ignore! But I also love the small communities, thriving at grassroots level. It’s diverse, an interesting blend of old and new with something for everyone.
What makes Wandsworth a creative place to live and work?
On the face of it, it’s not obviously creative, so many peaceful neighbourhoods, so many diverse communities, simply getting on with it. It’s full of surprises and a great place for the creative to explore. I suddenly remember that the Battersea Arts Centre is on my doorstep; parks like Wandsworth and Battersea and the river draw me in for inspiration and a reset. Quietly confident, full of hidden gems, stimulating spaces, energising events and awe inspiring artists, I love living here!
