Review of Celebrity Girlfriend Draft: A Clean Stand-Up Comedy Show
A review by Bianca Czeisler
I did not really know what to expect going into Celebrity Girlfriend Draft, but it actually ended up being really funny. It’s a stand-up comedy show by this American guy called Bryan Stoops. The show's about his life—stuff like being a dad, growing up, and random things he’s obsessed with, like 1970–2000s movies. The main theme of the show is the “celebrity girlfriend draft” concept, where Stoops picks his dream celebrity crush and the rules he has regarding them, which was honestly hilarious.
Overall, he uses lots of personal stories, but not like one-of-a-kind ones—so you can actually relate. For example, he had a bit where he would say all women are either an Elsa or an Anna and proceeded to tell a story about how his wife got offended by it. The way he told the stories was so easy to follow and relatable. I liked that he didn’t try too hard to be ‘cool’. It felt more authentic.
He had good timing, and the jokes weren’t super-fast or confusing. Also, the room felt really chill—people were laughing and enjoying it, no awkward silence moments.
It’s rated 13+, and I’d say that makes sense. It’s not bad or anything, it’s just, well, most movies he is referencing are rated 13+ and are almost classics. People will not relate as they have not yet experienced some of the things he mentions, like secondary school.
Overall, I’d definitely recommend it if you want a comedy show that’s fun and light-hearted and especially for old movie fans. It’s just a good laugh. Plus, it was under a tenner, so worth it.
