Painting shows the toll house at the Putney end of the old Putney Bridge. In front of the tollhouse is a brick wall dividing the approach to the bridge from the river. In front of the wall there is a rowing boat. The end of the bridge appears on the left edge of the picture and part of St Mary's Church appears to the right.
