Artist Biography

Brian Barnes MBE (1944–2021) Brian Barnes was a British muralist and community artist celebrated for his vibrant, large-scale public artworks across South London. Born in Farnborough, Kent, he studied at Ravensbourne College and the Royal College of Art. Settling in Battersea in 1967, Barnes became deeply involved in local activism and used art to champion social and political causes. Over a career spanning more than four decades, he collaborated with communities to create murals that reflected local identity and history. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded an MBE in 2005.
