Mary Magdalene: A Tangled Truth

Date
Tue 10 Jun 2025
Free event no booking

This telling of her story through story-telling, drama and music is based on many sources including the biblical accounts, and legends surviving in various parts of the world.

Explored through various traditions including those around the Grail, scholarly research, the Gospel of Mary Magdalene and various commentaries on it, other Apocryphal documents such as The Acts of St John and such contemporary accounts as Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code and Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh, and Henry Lincoln ‘s The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail.

The performance uses the notion of entanglement from quantum physics to show how her story has been used by various groups and become entangled as part of the fabric of European history, and that stories are not individual but interconnected with culture. The problem of historical ‘truth’ is raised by this presentation and the relationship between past and present.
