An abstract painting by Rachel Gadsden, showing five figures made of white lines flowing around a stage. From left to right: figure one is an electric wheelchair user underneath a spotlight, mid-movement; figure two stands at the back of the stage with their hands up as if they are signing; figure three is bent double, as if in a bow; figure four, a manual wheelchair user, is mid-movement; and figure five is in a running pose as if moving swiftly offstage.

A mini-conference for artists, producers, venues and artistic allies to explore the dynamic history of the disability arts and rights movements, and a chance to learn from some of the most innovative and inclusive arts practitioners working in the UK today.

Join us for workshops and participatory sessions on inclusive devising and directing, including a demonstration of specialist DeafBlind devising techniques from Zarji Arts and drama games with FlawBored Theatre Company. Additional facilitators to be announced. We’ll also be hosting a series of panels on the past, present and future of Disability Arts, looking at the incredible heritage we draw from, how we work now, and the kind of future we want to co-create as disabled artists and activists. Speakers to be announced. We’re so excited to welcome our fellow arts industry workers to hang out together at the gorgeous Tara Theatre; let’s cross-pollinate, upskill and get excited about each other’s work!

CRIPtic Arts is a disabled-led arts organisation creating an artistic landscape where disabled people can flourish. Since its inception in 2019, CRIPtic has undergone a rapid period of expansion, growing from one development programme and show in a year to five shows, four development programmes and a community programme in 2024, alongside research, development and campaign work. Made up of disabled cultural workers, they work with other disabled people engaging with the arts - whether for fun, connection, employment or career development - whilst working to revolutionise accessibility across the cultural sector through consulting, training and campaigning.

Liberty Festival is the Mayor of London’s flagship disability arts festival, platforming some of the most exciting disabled creatives, showcasing bold, innovative work for free that excites, challenges and reframes disability for audiences across the capital and hosted in each London Borough of Culture.

This black-and-white photo depicts Adrian Lee, a white man playing an electric guitar. Adrian’s figure fills the frame from just below the chest up. Adrian faces the camera squarely but his eyes are shut with deep concentration as he plays his guitar which is held high to his chest across his left shoulder. His right hand fingers pluck the string while his left hand fingers are curled to press the strings on the guitar’s neck. He wears a dark baseball cap, a light-coloured shirt with a mandarin colour unbuttoned over a dark t-shirt. The background is light, and Adrian’s stance is dramatic and strong and the image of him is clearly articulated in this black-and-white photo.
