The Silent Woman
Date
Fri 13 - Sat 21 Jun 2025
Dresden, Germany, 1919. Expressionist painter Oskar Kokoschka is living with his life-size doll, created in the image of his ex-lover Alma Mahler.
Oskar is trying to rebuild what he had before with Alma. To once again
have meaning and connection in his life. To belong. Not only does he paint
and dress his doll, but he also takes her out to coffee shops and the opera.
Oskar is infatuated with his fetish, happy and giddy in his delusion. He is
no longer alone and has his Alma all to himself. How long can his fantasy
withstand the concern of his friends and family and a society pushed to its
boundaries of tolerance? What will break the spell and bring Oskar back to
reality? The Silent Woman is based on the true story about the
life-size doll Oskar Kokoschka commissioned when he returned from WW1. It is
a universal story about love, loneliness, and obsession. This show
is a work-in-progress of Act One, where we learn the drama behind the
creation of Oskar’s Silent Woman.
