Louis Wain's 'Springfield Reveal' Guided Walk
Truly nothing stands still at the enormous Springfield Hospital development
It's almost two years since the Park opened and a series of popular 'Springfield Revealed' Walks have followed its progess. Once the site of 'The Surrey County Pauper Lunatic Asylum' this beautiful, unique location comes with some extraordinary history and this Walk combines past, present and future in a sensitive and respectful manner. Springfield has been 'hidden' for so long and what a joy to witness it reveal itself at the heart of 'Blooming Tooting'. A special reason to celebrate this summer is that it's exactly one hundred years since the 'discovery' here of world-renowned cat artist Louis Wain. One of the most popular and prolific illustrators of the late-Victorian Edwardian era was a patient here in 1924. Out of the public eye, he continued to sketch anonymously until recognised by a visitor the following year. I'll be telling the full remarkable story on this very special Walk.
