Artist Biography
Josefina de Vasconcellos (1904–2005) Josefina de Vasconcellos was a gifted British sculptor, poet, and humanitarian. Born in Molesey to a Brazilian diplomat and an English Quaker, she trained in London, Florence, and Paris under masters including Antoine Bourdelle. Her figurative sculptures, often religious in theme, appear in churches and cathedrals across Britain. She married artist Delmar Banner and later founded initiatives supporting disadvantaged and disabled children. In recognition of her charitable work, she was awarded the OBE in 1985.
