The Collected Live Drawings of Lisa Gornick
Lisa Gornick returns to Omnibus Theatre with 5 unique live drawing shows. From original new works to classics reimagined; blending theatre, live drawing and cinema this week-long residency from returning artist Lisa Gornick explores identity, relationships, queernness, and figuring out our place in the world.
11 MAR - GRANDMA RAY
Lisa Gornick brings us her live drawing show about her Grandma Ray, an Eastender who went posh and the special secret they both shared.
A comic and poignant show merging 1920s and 1990s London and the experiences of two women trying to find their way in a patriarchal set up.
This show explores family, queerness, and identity through Lisa’s unique lens of live drawing and cross-art form.
12 MAR - DRAWING ON THE BOTTLE
An autobiographical portrait, Drawing on the Bottle, is an intimate exploration of our relationship with alcohol. What happens when we fall in too deep and how do we escape its toxic hold?
This show will be accompanied by the launch of Lisa’s new book of drawings and words exploring the good, the bad, and the ugly; questioning is all with compassion, finally, for herself and what she did.
13 MAR - WHAT THE F**CK IS A LESBIAN FILM?
'I look at the history of cinema and ask, am I a lesbian filmmaker?’
Lisa Gornick first film Do I Love You? launched in 2003 was about the lesbian label, and then she became a lesbian filmmaker. And the film industry wanted her. Is it a good idea to be pinned down by a label?
14 MAR - THE MANY FACES OF EVE
Inspired by the Oscar-winning 1950 film All About Eve, written and directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz and starring Bette Davis, this new live drawing performance offers a bold, alternative reflection on fame, age and love.
In this one-woman show, award-winning filmmaker and performer Lisa Gornick takes one of her favourite films as a starting point for a playful re-imagining. Embodying all the characters, she will create her own response to this classic film.
Using pen, pastel, watercolour, voice and music, Gornick builds a hand-made “DIY cinema” live on stage — stripping back the glamour to reveal the raw sketch beneath.
Set against the backdrop of 1950s expectations — when success and fulfilment for women were defined by marriage — The Many Faces of Eve revisits and redraws those narratives with wit, alternative viewpoints and a bold new enquiry.
14 MAR - HOW TO DO IT
How To Do It is a show about sex, intimacy and creativity.
Using real-time projected drawings, Lisa will take you on a journey through her early lesbian experiences as she explores the importance of listening to yourself and your body.
Through her comic and quirky drawings, and using the empty page as a metaphor for how we approach each other, Lisa explores the beauty and chaos of queer relationships. She presents a new guide to intimacy, one that moves away from power and goals. A guide book with simple moves, this lesbian looks back on her life through humour and meaningful exploration, and tries to find joy in the blank page.
