A tribute to Evelyn Dove
Evelyn Dove was a pioneering British jazz singer, actress, and trailblazer who broke barriers in the 1920s and beyond and made history as the first Black women to record and be regularly featured by the BBC.
She was a true trailblazer opening doors for future generations of artists in Britain, breaking both racial and gender barriers.
Born and raised in Battersea, Dove studied piano, singing and elocution at the Royal Academy of Music from 1917 until her graduation in 1919. She achieved international acclaim and paved the way for future generations of performers. Now proudly commemorated with a blue plaque on her former home, Evelyn’s story continues to inspire our local community.
This special evening will celebrate her remarkable legacy through stunning live performances that bring her story and music to life.
Music with Danny Piers Trio and The World Heart Beat band led by jazz pianist Ayo Vincent.
