Siege is the story of a group of British soldiers who descend on a Bengali village in the early 20th century

The villagers are accused of harboring a spy. When the spy can’t be found, the British officers resort to a hideous tactic: each day, one Hindu villager is chosen and forced to either reveal information about the spy or kill one of their own cows.
