Garratt Lane runs along the Wandle Valley in south west London, almost three miles from Wandsworth to Tooting

It's surely one of south London's most historic routes and this Walk takes a look at some of its lesser known stories! We'll be taking in schools, factories, churches, the Henry Prince estate, Gypsy/Traveller heritage of Wardley Street, the Corruganza Boxmakers, Marc Bolan, Titanic bugler Percy Fletcher, jazz pioneer Sadie Crawford and 'The Daffodil King'. It's also the journey of one of the most notable politcians of the modern era, three times Mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan. A boy from the council estate next to the Wandle whose 1.3 million votes secured the largest personal mandate of any politician in UK history, the first elected Muslim mayor of any major western capital, guiding London through unpredictable times.

Places I Never Think About

Mon 30 Jun - Wed 2 Jul 2025
A film tape displaying two still images: on top is a black and white image of what seems to be a man of the silent movie era, similar to Charlie Chaplin. The image below is of a woman in a black wide-brimmed hat, covering most of her face and in a red dress, with her hands swaying her dress in dance.
